Stone at Design Emporium

Wide range of stone including granite, limestone, marble and quartz stone for both floors and counter-tops available at Design Emporium.  They are suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, conservatories, exterior and interior walls and floors.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is made entirely out of it, and with that sort of testimony it’s no wonder that Limestone is widely used as a building material.  There are beautiful grey to cream tones available in this natural stone. It can be cut to a variety of thicknesses which make it suitable a superb choice for kitchen counter-tops.  Limestone is clearly a long-lasting material, but it is important to note that it is porous and reactive to acid solutions.

Marble is available in a wide variety of shades and can come in a honed, polished, brushed, or tumbled finish.  Design Emporium supply marble counter-tops for kitchens in addition to marble vanity units and other marble worktops.  Marble is often considered to be the most luxurious building material.  It has distinctive veining and soft clouding which give the impression of translucence and depth. This type of stone occurs when some Limestone is subjected to intense heat and pressure. This makes it both strong and durable.  Its strength means that it can be applied to almost every area in the home.  Marble succeeds in being an excellent material for kitchen counter tops.  It is also a good material to use for sinks and basins due to its natural resistance to staining.

Slate is a natural stone, usually quarried from mountains. It has been formed over many years from other types of rock. Materials such as quartz, calcite, mica etc are compressed by heat and pressure to form a homogeneous finely grained stone. It is a durable stone, quarried in large slabs which are then cut into tiles and flagstones.

There are huge advantages to using Quartz counter-tops and Quartz flooring in your project. As well as being available in almost any colour you can think of, it has twice the strength and durability of Granite.  It needs very little maintenance other than a clean in warm soapy water to keep it in pristine condition. Quartz is scratch resistant, stain resistant, mould and  mildew resistant. It requires the least maintenance as there is no need to re-polish or reseal is once it has been fitted.

Granite is available in a huge spectrum of shades, textures, and colours. It is an igneous rock that is formed from magma and  is one of the most durable natural stones.  Granite is commonly used as a work surface in kitchens, as well as commercial areas.  It is very easy to keep clean and maintain as it is waterproof and stain resistant. It has low porosity making it difficult for bacteria to settle, and is difficult to burn or damage.  Given that it is a natural product there are variances in each stone.  Each piece chosen will add individuality to the project it enhances.
